The Permanent Mission

The Permanent Mission is accredited to the United Nations Offices in Geneva and in Vienna, covering developments a wide range of both United Nations and other intergovernmental organisations:

  • serving as liaison between Line Ministries and specific United Nations and/or other Agencies throughout the annual programme of conferences;
  • negotiating on behalf of and as per detailed negotiating briefs originating from those Ministries in Harare; and
  • deploying, in Geneva and Vienna, in support of home-based delegations that travel to participate-in-person at major meetings of various UN and other Agencies.

In the context of the National Development Strategy 1, as well as the economic diplomacy thrust, the Mission continues to identify and mobilize funding, technical assistance and capacity-building opportunities across various sectors including investment, trade and development, industrial development, intellectual property development, public health, climate change mitigation and adaptation, telecommunications and the digital economy, environmental management, management of the Diaspora, among many other key economic enablers.

Throughout our engagement in Geneva and Vienna, Zimbabwe closely coordinates with the Africa Group, the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), the Non-Aligned Movement, the Group of 77 and China and the Like-Minded Group. On specific issues, the Mission also collaborates with the SADC Group and the Group of Friends in Defence of the UN Charter.
